I attended the Web Summit in Lisbon from the 1st to the 4th of November 2022.

It was my first time attending such a conference on such a scale!

More than 70 000 people flew from 145 countries to meet, learn, and exchange.

Here are five takeaways I got from the summit.

1. Face-to-face Is the New Email

When you are a founder who has no experience, no connection, and nothing to show, don’t expect people to answer your emails.

Since I couldn’t reach out to people digitally, I decided to do it face-to-face— needless to say it works much better.

You don’t necessarily have to go to a conference to talk to them.

In fact, you have two options:

  1. Walk into their headquarters.
  2. Go to conferences.

I have done both, and conferences work better because people expect to be sought, so you know you won’t bother them if you walk up to them and introduce yourself.

The Web Summit was my chance to talk to several CEOs directly who now know who I am and what I do, and that will answer my emails.
