I read your piece twice, but I still don't get it. Where's the problem? What do you expect from him? I feel the problem isn't in fact, his behavior, but the way you respond to his behavior. It's as if you estimate that he is doing his job perfectly while you hate yourself for not doing yours well. Chill out. Maybe talking to him and asking him about taking an extra load of the work from time to time would work? Also, what if he feels about you the way you feel about him? You guys don't talk, and that's a problem.
