Interesting article, there is a lot of truth in what you say.
But unfortunately there is a hierarchy made of beta and alpha. This isn't a social construction, or "in people's minds" either.
And the reason why everyone is obsessed about it is that men constantly get judged on the position they occupy in the hierarchy.
That position further has an impact on the chemistry of the brain. Men have more testosterone when they are at the top of the hierarchy, and less of it when they are at the bottom.
That in turns impacts your life, and even decides how long you live.
Status is a real thing, and I don't think that saying things like "don't play status games" or "just ignore it" is helping.
It is like saying someone who is thirsty to just "ignore your need for water".
