The post-WWII socio-political order was established on falsehoods for political purposes, the origin of contemporary political correctness. The problem is that you can't build a society on false principles, as we're slowly uncovering now. The pre-WWII intellectual class wasn't embarrassed by such constraints, and people stated what they saw as they saw it, which means this literature is likelier to be more truthful than the contemporary one.
